Peace Education
  Education is one of the few areas where we can tackle the root causes of most of the problems we face in the world- e.g. poverty, violence, environmental degradation- and problems we face everyday as individuals and members of communities. Most mainstream education systems do not foster an environment where youth are able to begin to understand who they are and how to relate to others. Youth must be encouraged to know themselves and once they know themselves, they can make better decisions about their lives and their interactions with others. We must foster a culture of peace for ourselves and our communities now, so we can do the same on a larger scale as the leaders of tomorrow.
I have designed a series of six two-hour workshops for youth based on building a culture of peace.

The workshops combine games, art, music, drama, group work and discussion to enable an environment for youth to look at themselves, love themselves, and respect their neighbors. The workshops build upon each other and the topics are as follows:
* Relaxation
* Self Confidence
* Communication
* Violence and Non-Violence
* Creative Problem Solving
* Conflict Resolution

Each workshop covers core concepts relating to each topic, and those concepts will be explained, learned and practiced through different mediums. These workshops are available to anyone who has use for them at no cost. If you would like a copy, please contact Southern Hemisphere at info@southernhemisphere.co.za for a copy of the materials.
The workshops were created by Cheryl Schoenberg while she was an intern at Southern Hemisphere, and as she wishes them to be available to all who can use them, she is also available for questions or comment at cheryl@2wrongs.net. She would appreciate hearing from those who use the workshop series.
