Participatory Virtual Facilitation

Objectives of the course

We are all taking our facilitation processes online!  How do we maintain connection with participants?  How do we give and receive value out of our engagement in online meetings, workshops and processes? How do we transfer our facilitation skills into the online space?

Through our training programme, Southern Hemisphere has been providing practical skills for meaningful social change for 18 years. Now, in partnership with Orla Cronin Research, we are offering an introductory course on Participatory Virtual Facilitation to assist MEL Practitioners, Consultants, Project Managers, Researchers, Directors, Leaders, Planners and Development practitioners (and anyone trying to facilitate processes online).

This introductory course will help you to make the best use of virtual opportunities to engage with people, to explore issues creatively, and to reach decisions.  We will consider some of the challenges in facilitating processes virtually, and share some tips and tools to make the virtual experience engaging, participatory and productive

What will it cover?

This 2-hour session will consider how we can facilitate in a virtual environment, maintaining our values while we do so. It will cover:

  • Challenges in virtual events
  • Designing and Preparing an online facilitation process
  • Convening
  • Managing the meeting for participation, engagement, and productivity
  • Ending the meeting
  • Troubleshooting & Security
  • Further examples of methods and tools for engagement
