World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD)
Southern Hemisphere participated at the Conference from August 26th until September 4th at the Nasrec Exhibition Center in Johannesburg.
Southern Hemisphere was selected to be part of the facilitation team at the stakeholder forum, where Daniel Nina was a key facilitator.
We conducted a survey of organisations that might be interested in having representation at the Summit, but who didn’t have the resources to send a contingent. We offered our facilitation services to the following organisations: BAOBAB, Electoral Institute of South Africa, EIS-Africa, JACANA, NICRO, OLIVE, OLSET, Salesian Institute, and SANCA. Thank you all for your support and participation!
Launch of El Otro (November 2002)
SHC is currently busy preparing the launch of our third edition of the 'El Otro'directory of services in the film and entertainment industry as one of the major projects within our facilitation portfolio. This year we are increasing the overall exposure of El Otro in order to achieve wider African and Caribbean communication and cooperation between several sectors interested in the two regions similarities and peculiarities. Please refer to our El Otro page if you would like to participate in this innovative initiative.
Facilitation Workshop
“I found the course exceeded all my expectations.”
Facilitation Workshop, July 2002, Cape Town, SA.
From July 9th to 11th, Southern Hemisphere conducted its brand new workshop called "Facilitation Skills" which occured in Cape Town, South Africa. It was intended to respond to the ever-increasing demand for facilitation courses, specifically in the South African development sector. Participants evaluated the workshop very highly, in terms of its organisation, dynamism, and exposure to new skills & techniques. SHC's vast experience in facilitation projects proved to be quite accurate in the achievement of a new path towards capacity training.
Interns - Old and New!
Charlene April successfully completed the internship programme in Augsut 2002. She conducted several programmes in the facilitation, training, and monitoring and evaluation departments. Her help and charm will always be remembered among her colleagues. We wish her good luck and success in her master’s degree programme, and new professional projects. Thank you and Good Luck, Charlene! We are with you!
SHC would also like to welcome our second international intern, Marcelo Rodriguez, who is from Puerto Rico. He successfully completed his undergraduate degree in Human Geography at the University of Puerto Rico, and his next goal is to complete a master’s degree programme in International Conflict Analysis in Europe. Welcome Marcelo !
We are also extremely lucky that our first international intern, Cheryl Schoenberg, has returned to work with us at Southern Hemisphere. She returns with a broader international expertise and knowledge in order to improve our scope of scrutiny among some of our major projects. Welcome back Cheryl!
