National Skills Fund - Research and Innovation Window
Dena is currently completing the Project on Best Practice Implementation of the Skills Development Act for the Department of Labour, Research and Innovation window. We have identified 10 companies in 5 different sectors that can be held up as examples for others to follow. The case studies have been written up in such a way that they can be used for stimulating discussions in teaching and learning situations. This is an initiative of the National Department of Labour (European Union).

Department of Labour - Dena is currently writing the report for a research project conducted on worker's perceptions of Skills Development. The project involved workers on structured learning programs in the chemical, transport and tourism & hospitality sectors. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the effect of the National Skills Development Strategy on workers & their experiences in their organisations. This was done in order to inform & improve future planning.

Farewell Gail...

After being with SHC for four years, Gail Smith will be leaving to take up her Nelson Mandela Scholarship to complete an MA (and hopefully a PhD) in Global Political Economy at Sussex University. Gail joined Southern Hemisphere as an intern after completing her Honors degree in Sociology at the University of Cape Town. She has grown with us and has contributed much to the development of the organisation. We'd like to say farewell even though she'll remain with Southern Hemisphere as an Associate. Best of Luck with your studies Gail, we know you will do us proud!!!

Welcome to our new team members!!!

We would also like to welcome our new interns Anette Ivsett from Norway who is currently working at our Cape Town office, and Veronika Kohler from Germany who has joined the San Juan office.
Their presence here will be valued and we hope their experience will be as rewarding as it has been for past interns we’ve had!!
