Nana Davies

Nana Davies is a planning, monitoring and evaluation specialist with more than 22 years of experience as a consultant in the social development field. Nana holds a Master’s Degree in Law, specialising in human rights, from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and the University of Rennes, France. In 1997, she was employed by the Centre for Socio-Legal Research, University of Cape Town to produce international comparative analyses related to various research projects. She co-founded Nielsen and Klein Consulting, based in Cape Town, in 1998 and joined Southern Hemisphere as a Senior Consultant in 2004 where she is now a partner and managing member. Nana has a special interest in facilitating processes and conducting evaluations of development interventions for learning organisations. She has recently worked in the area of early childhood development, child protection, youth development, migration, human trafficking, gender based violence, social protection and food security. Nana is a member of the South African Monitoring and Evaluation Association. Recent experience highlights:

Applied research and evaluation

  • Team leader on the baseline study of the iloveLife Innovation Fund – a project aiming to ensure better access to adolescent and youth friendly sexual and reproductive health services on behalf of UNFPA, loveLife and the Department of Health (2016)
  • Co-team leader on the United Nation Joint Project on Protecting Migrant Children from Trafficking and Exploitation in Zambia (2016)
  • Fieldworker in South Africa for the DFID-sponsored Technical Scoping Study for Design: Harnessing Migration for Inclusive Growth and Development in Southern Africa (2016)
  • Team leader on the implementation evaluation of the National Drug Master Plan, DPME and Department of Social Development, South African Government (2015/16)
  • Senior evaluator on the evaluation of the USAID Botswana Health Programme (2015/16)
  • Team leader on the Mapping of Early Childhood Development for UNICEF Rwanda (2014/15)
  • Co-team leader on the Implementation Evaluation of the Safer South Africa Programme on Violence Against Women and Children, for UNICEF, UNFPA, Save the Children and funded by DFiD (2014/15)
  • Team leader on the review of community-based child care programs for UNICEF NYHQ (included literature review, case studies, and developing a toolkit for design, monitoring and evaluation for UNICEF country offices) (2012/2015)
  • Team leader on the Baseline Study on Community Development in 69 Communities in Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe supported with Educational Packages by the Roger Federer Foundation (2014)
